two things can be true at the same time.
keep how you want to feel as your guide, even when you're far from home.
i'm headed to Hawaii with Charlie next week. and i already know exactly what's going to happen.
we'll stay up later than normal. we'll eat things we probably wouldn't eat at home. we'll spend every chance we get in the ocean, the pool, or chasing another sunset.
we'll make memories we'll be talking about for years.
and somewhere during the trip, i'll hear someone say, "i'm on vacation. i'll get back on track when i get home."
it always makes me stop and think. because you can fully enjoy your vacation. and take care of yourself. those two things don't compete. in fact, i think they make each other better.
somewhere along the way we've been taught that taking a break means leaving all of our healthy choices behind. we stop drinking enough water. we stop moving. we stop taking care of our skin. we eat differently. sleep differently. forget our routines.
then we come home feeling dry, puffy, exhausted, and wondering why we need a vacation from our vacation.
instead of judging ourselves, i like to get curious. why do we do that?
what if taking care of yourself wasn't the opposite of having fun?
what if it was part of the fun?
that's why, when i travel, i bring my rituals with me. not because i couldn't use something else. the same products i use at home, just sized for the journey. this time, the whole thing packed into one unwind set.

the reason your body tightens when you travel
one of the biggest things thirty years with my hands on bodies has taught me is that your body is always trying to take care of you.
when you travel, your creature comforts disappear. your own bed. your normal routine. the little rituals that quietly tell your body, "it's okay. you can relax now."
even though you've left your everyday responsibilities behind, you've also left behind everything familiar. your body notices that. not because anything is wrong. because something changed.
your body protects first and asks questions later.
it tightens muscles so you don't get hurt. it slows things down because it doesn't know what's coming next. it redirects energy toward protection instead of repair. it's simply doing what it was designed to do.
the beautiful part is that your body also knows how to unwind. the more you choose little things that whisper the same message, the more your system begins to soften.
i hear you.
a warm shower. your favorite body oil. butter before bed. a few slow breaths. a foot massage. your familiar spray on the pillow.
little by little, your body stops scanning. it starts resting. repairing. digesting. circulating. healing. not because you're on vacation. because you've reminded your body that it's okay to let go.

why i packed unwind
the base is the same one i use every single day. sesame oil, olive oil, avocado butter, mango butter. no water, no fillers. your skin recognizes it as food.
what changes is the scent. and the scent is doing real work. cedarwood is a sedative. it grounds the mind and steadies mood. vanilla soothes the nerves and softens stress. together they're warm, earthy, barely there. so quiet most people swear it's almost unscented.
that's the point. your intention doesn't change how the product works. it changes the experience. and the experience i want when i'm far from my own bed is grounded.

the evening ritual i never skip
every evening on vacation has become one of my favorite rituals. after a full day in the sun, the ocean, the pool, or exploring somewhere new, my shower isn't just washing off sunscreen. it's my reset.
oiling my skin afterward is completely non-negotiable. the oil sinks into damp skin. then comes the butter to seal it in. not because i'm worried about wrinkles. because my skin has spent the entire day taking care of me. now it's my turn to take care of it.
before bed, everyone gets butter. Matt. Charlie. whoever happens to be traveling with us. a little extra on the spots that spent the day in the sun, salt water, chlorine, or dry hotel air.
it's amazing how different your skin feels the next morning when you help it recover before another day of adventure.
the little things i reach for on the road
- a scrub midway through the trip, to wake up sluggish circulation.
- body oil massaged into the belly in slow clockwise circles when digestion stalls.
- a little butter on tired feet.
- a few squeezes into the neck and shoulders after a long flight.
those tiny moments make a big difference. not because they're complicated. because they're intentional.

what self-care really is
maybe that's what self-care really is. not another thing on your checklist. not perfection. not discipline. it's simply choosing little moments that remind your body it's heard.
that's also why i love traveling with the same products i use at home. not because i couldn't possibly use something else. because every time i use them, they remind me why i chose them in the first place.
i chose them because i wanted healthier skin. i wanted fewer toxins. i wanted ingredients that actually support my body. i wanted to feel good in my own skin. every application reconnects me to that intention.
for me, that's what intentional bodycare is. it's not just what you put on your skin. it's how you choose to take care of yourself.
keep how you want to feel as your guide.
not guilt. not perfection. how do you want to feel tomorrow? soft? rested? comfortable? energized? choose the little things today that help create that feeling.
vacation isn't about abandoning yourself.
it's about enjoying yourself.
those are two very different things.
